Authorities say wildfires burning in North Carolina are prompting reports of smoke across southern Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore. Delaware State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitemarsh says the department has received a number of calls reporting smoke, but says the smoke is from outside the state and fires have not been reported in Delaware.

In Maryland, Worcester County officials say smoke and odors have also been reported in parts of the county and they are urging residents to avoid reporting non-specific smoke and odors.

The National Weather Service warned Saturday that winds could bring smoke from wildfires in southeastern Virginia and eastern North Carolina into Delaware and the Maryland Eastern Shore.
