This was an official day of appreciation for the longtime head of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Hundreds of people gathered tonight on the museum's east terrace to pay tribute to Anne d'Harnoncourt.

Mayor Michael Nutter led the list of speakers who remembered d'Harnoncourt's years of work for not just the museum, but for art in all of Philadelphia.

The museum also opened its doors and allowed free admission to allow the public to view the works d'Harnoncourt was most proud of.

Anne d'Harnoncourt was 64 when she died on June first.
