Eminent domain for beach replenishment in Harvey Cedars

The Board of Commissioners in Harvey Cedars on Long Beach island, New jersey passed an ordinance Tuesday night, allowing the use of eminent domain against 15 homeowners.

Officials say a federal beach replenishment project is needed to save the community.

But, the homeowners have refused to give the government permission to go on their land to shore up dunes and replace eroded beaches.

Mayor Jonathan Oldham says Harvey Cedars is just one hurricane away from disaster and the board is acting in the best interests of all residents.
