While "National Night Out" kicks off Tuesday, a smaller event was held to help strengthen the relationship between police and the neighborhood Monday night.
The event featured performances, face painting and even a visit from some shelter animals up for adoption.
Mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey also attended.
