Used fire truck headed to the Bahamas

VANDERGRIFT, Pa. (AP) - September 15, 2008

Vandergrift Volunteer No. 1 Fire Department sold the 1983 truck for $4,050 on eBay to Fire Rescue Development Program, a nonprofit that helps equip firefighters in developing countries.

Vandergrift is about 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Officials there bought the truck new for $56,000, but say it no longer meets local performance standards, though it still works.

The truck is headed to Alice Town, a village on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The Vandergrift department and others also donated some equipment with the truck.
