'Out of gas' sign would have been better

WATERLOO, Ind. (AP) - September 17, 2008

Sounds pretty scary.

And that's just what a gas station worker wanted.

Piper Withey says she posted a price of $5.99 a gallon for regular after her station ran out of gas.

She says she wanted to scare off customers so they wouldn't waste their time pulling up to an empty pump.

But she adds the phony high price caused a little more excitement at Kaghann's Korner near Waterloo, Indiana, than they had expected.
