A medical examiner says the cause of Edwin Mason's death was "complications of near drowning."
The Camden resident and his 16-year-old brother were swimming after lifeguards went off duty Sunday.
Police rescued the brothers from the surf and attempted CPR before they were taken to the hospital.
His brother was in stable condition.
