New animals at the Philadelphia Zoo

PHILADELPHIA - September 25, 2008 - There are new exhibits to see, and new animals to fall for, in the African plains section of the Philadelphia Zoo.

I had the treat of feeding Gus and Stella their snacks of browse - grown on the zoo's farm. They were ready to take the branch right out of my hands!

There are also two ostriches, the first at the zoo in 14 years!

"The girls are very sweet," said Christine Bartos of the Philadelphia Zoo. "They've taken to their new exhibit."

There are also two adorable new antelope named after Batman and Robin! They are superheroes of sorts... they're among the critically endangered species.

Meanwhile, Tony the Rhino is an old vet at the zoo, but the exhibit is brand new. Moving him to his new digs, however, was not easy.

"We had to rent a big crate, and we used a really big fork lift to pick up the whole crate, and the rhino weighed 8,000 pounds!" Bartos said.

Now the animals ready and waiting for you to come and check them out.
