One dead, child hurt in fire

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - October 13, 2008 - Rescuers were called out just after 5:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of South 57th Street.

When they arrived they found heavy fire coming from the building.

Soon afterward, firefighters went inside and found the woman and the girl.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital

The woman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was pronounced dead.

Smoke alarms found in the home had no batteries.
