The booths are the idea of Dylan Mortimer, a recent graduate of New York's School of Visual Art.
They look like phone booths.
But on the side, there are graphics that show hands -- and the word "prayer" instead of "telephone."
The artist says he wants to spark a dialogue about prayer.
Two of his booths are installed in midtown Manhattan near the entrance to the Roosevelt Island tram.
Inside the prayer booth there's even a flip-down kneeler.
