NRC says Oyster Creek's radiation barrier OK

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - November 18, 2008 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the reactor can operate until the plant's next scheduled inspection in 2012.

The drywell is designed to contain radiation in the event of an accident.

The NRC says ultrasonic measurements of the drywell's thickness met standards.

State and local groups are opposing efforts to renew Oyster Creek's license for 20 years.
