Fiery crash kills one

HUNTING PARK - November 22, 2008 It happened around 11:55 p.m. Friday on Wissahickon Avenue near Roberts Avenue in what investigators believe was a drag-racing incident.

The man killed has been identified as 19-year-old Moses Jackson from the 2700 block of Garnet Street. The other victims were taken to Temple Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Four vehicles were involved. One of those vehicles struck a utility pole with a transformer attached.

The impact caused the pole to topple and catch fire, igniting the car. Three other utility poles were pulled down as well.

A handgun was found on the scene, however it was determined that it belonged to a police officer. Initial reports were that a vehicle fled from the crash site, however investigators now say they are not looking for any such vehicle.

According to PECO, more than 3,000 customers lost power because of the accident and all but 3 customers had power restored by 8:00 Saturday morning. The three who are still without power reside by the crime scene.
