One of deadliest years in Camden's history

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - December 30, 2008 It was among the deadliest years ever in the city that regularly ranks among the nation's most crime-ridden.

Sister Helen Cole began Monday holding her annual vigil to remember each of the victims, including two who were shot by police officers.

Each hour at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Sister Helen or Father Ken Hallahan lights a candle for a victim and gives a prayer.

Sometimes, friends or family of the victims are there to mourn with them.

Camden's deadliest year was in 1995, when there were a record 58 killings. Cole says she prays that the city never reaches that mark again.
