Pa. man who claimed sovereignty pleads guilty

EASTON, Pa. (AP) - March 13, 2009

Forty-four-year-old Scott Allan Witmer entered the plea Thursday in Northampton County Court. He claimed Tuesday after his arrest in the eastern Pennsylvania county that he wasn't subject to police or court jurisdiction because he lived inside himself, not in Pennsylvania. He asked Judge Leonard Zito again Thursday if our souls do not live "within ourselves."

But when Zito asked if he could accept that laws are "to protect us and bind us," Witmer said he could.

Zito scheduled sentencing for May 15. The charge can result in a sentence of three days to six months in prison, a $1,000 to $5,000 fine and a license suspension.
