Cardinal announces new Catholic bishop in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - June 8, 2009 Cardinal Justin Rigali announced Monday that Monsignor Timothy Senior has been appointed auxiliary bishop.

The 49-year-old Senior has been a priest since 1985. He has served mostly in the Philadelphia area, where he grew up. For the past five years, Senior has served as vicar for clergy.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Senior to his new position. Senior will be ordained a bishop on July 31 in Philadelphia.

The archdiocese serves nearly 1.5 million Catholics.
