A lawyer for comedian and radio personality Artie Lange has entered a not guilty plea on behalf of his client to a New Jersey charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. The 41-year-old Lange was charged following a minor traffic accident Friday in Toms River.

Attorney Michael Grasso entered the plea Tuesday in Toms River Municipal Court.

Grasso said Lange passed an Alcotest screening for alcohol after the accident.

Police say officers assessed Lange as being under the influence based on their physical observations and required him to provide a urine sample. Results have not been received.

Lange, a regular on radio's "Howard Stern Show," is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court on Aug. 26.
