Police say James Lowry, of Alabama, had pulled into the service area and legally parked his tractor trailer on the right shoulder to get some sleep.
At approximately 4:48 a.m. a 2008 Scion sedan operated by Dai Vo, 52, of Virginia was traveling I-95 southbound and exited onto the Service Area access road.
Authorities believe Vo fell asleep at the wheel, drifted to the right and struck Lowry's parked tractor trailer.
The Scion was wedged under the trailer.
The front seat passenger, 52-year-old Hong Mellon of Virginia, had to be extricated from the car by mechanical means.
Vo, Mellon and rear seat passenger Loan Nguyen, 59, were all transported from the scene to Christiana Hospital where they were admitted with non-life threatening injuries.
James Lowry was not injured.
Mr. Vo was cited with Inattentive Driving.
