Officials say 38-year-old Antoine Williams of Reading is charged with first-, second- and third-degree murder as well as robbery, a weapons count and related offenses in the Nov. 21 death of 32-year-old Scott Bitler.
Williams was in Berks County Prison, where he is serving a nine- to 23-month sentence in an unrelated assault case.
District Attorney John Adams says Williams is accused of having been the gunman, but at least one other person was involved in the robbery.
Police allege that Williams and at least one other man entered the shop about five minutes before closing and threatened Bitler with a gun. Police say the victim sometimes carried a weapon and appeared to be reaching for it. A witness reported hearing the gunman yell, then heard a shot and saw two men running from the shop.
