Volunteers rebuild together

WALNUT HILL, Pa. - October 10, 2009 Jeri Morton has called her house home for 30 years. She lives alone and the expensive repairs have stacked up.

"The little things that need to be done in the house and the big things, they just add up to so much," Morton said.

With the help of Cricket Communications and Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, volunteers are giving Jeri Morton and other homeowners the help they've been looking for.

It was $25,000 worth of fresh paint, new roofs, renovations, plumbing, and other repairs in this West Philadelphia community.

"Our mission is to preserve affordable homeownership and keep low income owners in their homes," Carrie Rathmann of Rebuilding Together Philadelphia said.

Jeri's home is just one of five, crews refurbished Saturday, but their work isn't done. Volunteers will come back to work on 15 more homes in the community in the spring.

Two lots in Walnut Hill also got some special attention.
