Superior Court election recount gets under way

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - November 18, 2009 The process of counting more than 6 million votes began Wednesday, a big job for some counties.

A close finish by four candidates for the last of four open seats on the court triggered the state's automatic-recount law for the first time.

In Lancaster County, chief elections clerk Mary Stehman says a two-person skeleton crew will run the office while she and 14 other officials conduct the recount in the county's voting-machine warehouse.

Secretary of State Pedro Cortes says elections officials in all 67 counties must finish by Nov. 25.

He'll announce the results within five days after that.
