Ex-staffers testify in Pa. corruption trial

HARRISBURG, Pa. - December 7, 2009

Michael Manzo and Jennifer Brubaker were questioned Monday about payment of bonuses and hiring of legislative staff aides who also worked on political campaigns.

They appeared on the second day of testimony in the trial of former Democratic Rep. Sean Ramaley of Beaver County. Both Manzo and Brubaker were charged last year in the ongoing investigation.

Prosecutors say Ramaley spent his time working on his first campaign for the House in 2004 and didn't do any work for the taxpayers who covered his $2,500-a-month salary. His lawyers say he is innocent.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Anthony Krastek says prosecution testimony should wrap up Tuesday.
