Mom of Baby Gabriel held on felony charges

PHOENIX - January 11, 2010

The Tempe Police Department said Sunday that 23-year-old Elizabeth Johnson is being held at the Maricopa County jail on the three felony charges after being extradited from Florida, where she was taken into custody Dec. 30 after failing to show up for a custodial hearing in Phoenix.

Police say she's being held on a cash only $1.1 million bond.

Authorities are trying to determine what happened to Johnson's 8-month-old son, Gabriel, who was last seen with her in San Antonio last month.

Authorities are calling a Scottsdale couple "persons of interest" in the case.

The couple has said they befriended Johnson at an airport and that she wanted to give her son up for adoption.

Who is Gabriel's father?

Court documents reveal that Logan McQueary, said to be Gabriel's father, may not be the dad after all.

In her petition for custody on December 14th, Johnson wrote that there were two potential fathers, McQueary and another man, Craig Cherry.

Also in the document, Johnson claimed she feared McQueary would kidnap the baby and leave the state.

Three days earlier, McQueary filed for custody, saying he feared Johnson would kidnap the baby. He claimed Johnson would leave Gabriel crying in his crib for hours without changing his diaper, and that she kicked him out of their apartment saying "Take that damn baby with you."
