Dog park coming to Toledo?

TOLEDO, OH Toledo could be getting a dog park very soon. It's been talked about for months. A local group wants a park where dogs can run unleashed in a fenced in area within a city of Toledo park. The mayor is onboard.

However, the Ottawa-Jermain park advisory board contends a dog park would cost taxpayers money and take away from the natural setting. The advisory board held an anti-dog park rally Thursday.

According to Kevin Mullan, the founder of Toledo Unleashed, they have been fundraising and are still looking for some final sponsors. It is no cost to the city. The dog park will be funded by sponsors and membership fees.

A membership application will be posted on the Toledo Unleased website by mid-March. Mullan told us, "They'll need to give us their dog license number. Dogs have to be up to date on their shots, and dogs will have to be at least 5-6 months old."

The future dog park would be located adjacent to the Nature Center at Ottawa Park. The plan is to have the area fenced in by March 31.
