Child critical after being hit by van in NJ

EAST GREENWICH TWP., N.J. - March 12, 2010

It happened around 8:00 Friday morning at the intersection of West Tomlin Station Road and Wolfert Station Road in East Greenwich Township.

Police say the girl, a fourth grade student at Samuel Mickle Elementary, was waiting for the school bus with her father inside a mini van. When she saw the school bus approaching, she exited the van and ran into the street.

At that point, police said, she ran into the side of a construction van traveling east on West Tomlin Station Road.

The girl was transported to Cooper Hospital in critical condition.

She suffered a leg and head injury.

Police tell Action News speed does not seem to be a factor in the accident and no charges will be filed.

However, the investigation into this case continues.
