Roberto Segovia says their 1-year-old Shih Tzu named Scooter was barking up a storm early Sunday morning.
The family awakened to find their home on fire.
Segovia is the 18-year-old son of the Clearwater homeowners.
Authorities say the fire started in a 2001 Ford Expedition parked in the driveway.
It spread to the attic, virtually destroying the house.
