Del. zoo euthanizes Siberian tiger

WILMINGTON, Del. - August 2, 2010

Zoo officials said Monday that the tiger, named Ashley, had to be put down on Saturday after experiencing complications from a brief illness.

Officials said a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the 20-year-old tiger before cremation.

Ashley was born in 1990 at the St. Louis Zoo and brought to Delaware five years later.

Siberian tigers are an endangered species, with only about 200 known to exist in the wild.
