Flames broke out just after 10:00 p.m. inside a home on the 1100 block of West Oakdale Street.
When crews arrived, heavy fire and smoke was pouring from the second floor.
Officials rushed the elderly man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It's not clear what caused the fire.
