Delaware burglaries rise as violent crime drops

NEWARK, Del. - November 7, 2010

State crime figures show almost half of residential burglaries and a third of nonresidential burglaries did not involve a forced entry.

Cpl. Trinidad Navarro, spokesman for New Castle County police, says it may sound elementary, but locking doors and windows is important because in a lot cases burglars are just walking in.

The data include records of about 30,000 burglaries reported from January 2007 until last week. Nearly two-thirds involved residential properties.
