Shortly before 8:00 p.m. Thursday, the route 10 trolley collided with a Nissan Pathfinder at 49th Street and Lancaster Avenue.
SEPTA officials say five people on the trolley suffered minor injuries.
Three people in the Pathfinder were also injured.
All were transported to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania for treatment.
None of the injuries are said to be life threatening.
SEPTA officials say they employed shuttle buses to transport the remaining passengers.
The route 10 trolley runs from 13th and Juniper streets in Center City to 63rd Street and Malvern Avenue in Overbrook.
