New daily deal site from AOL comes to Philadelphia

December 10, 2010

That's why AOL has jumped on the daily deal bandwagon, with its own local deal site here in Philadelphia, called WOWDeals.

"What WOW.com tries to do is really target moms who're busy, active, on-the-go, with a budget," Drake explains. "They're going to give you daily deals that actually fit into your lifestyle. So, it's not necessarily the splurge things you wouldn't ordinarily do, but things you really are searching for deals on throughout your day."

Like Groupon, Living Social, KGB deals, and other daily deal sites we've told you about on Saving with 6abc, Wow Deals sends out an email each morning with a discount deal that's available for purchase for 24 hours.

"The minimum discount is 50%, so you'll always get at least 50% off the deal that's being offered," Drake says. "And as we head into the holiday season, that money adds up."

Drake says what makes Wow Deals different from the other sites is that most of the deals are for practical items, as opposed to splurges.

"Of course, you will see the restaurant deals, but it's really deals you can use, deals like an oil change, things like dental deals for the family. There's even one for a chiropractor," she says.

Wow Deals are currently available in Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C., but will be expanding to other cities over the upcoming year.
