Mrs. Fixit: Holiday Timesavers

December 19,2010

Make two meals at dinner time. You may think it sounds crazy but think about it, if you're roasting a chicken you can carve all of the meat off of it to make homemade stock. Then turn the stock and the leftover chicken into homemade soup that we can use for lunches and dinner this week.

Spaghetti and meatballs can easily turn into spanish rice for another night. If you can do this two or three nights a week you've taken care of a weeks meals in half the time.

How about the dreaded holiday baking? Make it fun, invite some friends over and have them bring ingredients for two types of cookies.

You and your friends can mix, bake cool and share the cookies so that all of you have several kinds of cookies and all of the work and clean up is done in one day!

The same goes for decorating. If you share the fun with friends and family it makes the job less stressful and more enjoyable.

How about gift exchanges? If it has gotten stressful or out of control, here is something we tried. Everyone bring a gift that means something to your group, we did gifts that reminded us of our grandparents.

Each person gets to choose a gift and everybody got something of sentimental value and no one was stressed trying to figure out what the others would like.

I hope that these timesaving ideas help you enjoy your holidays! I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
