Police: Pedestrian hit, walks home, later dies

PHILADELPHIA - December 15, 2010

The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. Monday at Kensington Avenue and Monmouth Street.

That was where the pedestrian, 48-year-old Efrain Martinez, was crossing Kensington Avenue with his brother when he was struck and knocked to the ground by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Police say the driver stopped and asked Martinez if he wanted to go to the hospital.

Martinez declined and continued walking home.

Then, about two hours later, Martinez started experiencing chest pains and trouble breathing. He was rushed to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver is described as a Hispanic man in his early 40's. He had a light complexion, a round face, full beard, short hair and was wearing a black puffy jacket. A passenger in the truck is described as a Hispanic female with a light complexion in her early 40's with black hair and wearing a black puffy jacket.

Police say the Ford may have sustained front bumper and fender damage.

They are asking the driver, or anyone who may know the driver, to call Accident Investigations at 215-685-3180
