Del. city's unions protest fire, police cuts

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - December 17, 2010

The police union has expressed a lack of confidence in Mayor James M. Baker, his staff and police Chief Michael Szczerba.

Baker says in a statement that the police union is being unrealistic and appears unable to accept the reality of the city's fiscal condition.

The campaign is in reaction to plans to cut 20 city workers at the end of the year in a $6 million plan to trim the city's budget.

Baker says the cuts are needed to avoid a multimillion-dollar deficit at the end of the fiscal year.
