2 Del. men charged after crash with NJ police car

Two Delaware men face several motor vehicle and criminal charges after their car crashed into a police cruiser in Atlantic City early Sunday, leaving an officer and his canine partner slightly injured.

The incident began around 6:30 a.m., when several residents reported the had struck several parked vehicles. It left the scene as officers arrived, and a short time later collided with the cruiser driven by officer Frank Timek.

The men - 21-year-old Luis Martin Donato Lopez of Wilmington and 23-year-old Clever Sanchez of Newark - tried to flee on foot but were soon captured. Both face drunken driving and related motor vehicle charges, while Sanchez was also charged with eluding and Lopez was charged with theft and burglary.

Timek and his police dog, Vader, were treated for minor injuries.
