COMACK, NEW YORK; June 1, 2011

Seven-year-old Elle Malinow has celiac disease, meaning she can't digest foods containing gluten.

When her mom got the brush-off from the Scouts, they started an online petition.

So far more than two-thousand people said they would buy gluten-free cookies.

Their goal is to get 100-thousand people to sign it, so Elle and others can enjoy Girl Scout cookies too

.

I feel sad because a lot of the brownies, they get to eat them, but I can't.

If the Girl Scouts and their two manufacturers' position is that until they see enough of a need, they won't do it, that's where this petition comes in.

The Girl Scouts of America says it conducted extensive market research on the issue.

It concluded there simply isn't enough demand to justify the extra cost of producing such cookies.
