Grimes was taking groceries inside his house on the 2900 block of Gilham Street when an intruder walked into his house.
Grimes suffered a busted lip during the altercation.
His 91-year-old mother was not hurt.
Police believe Grimes and his mother may have been followed after a trip to the bank and shopping.
