Fisherman snares alligator at southern NJ preserve

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - August 14, 2011

Jesse Deeney of Egg Harbor City was fishing in waters along the Hamilton Game Preserve in Atlantic County when the alligator became entangled in his line around 9:20 a.m.

Deeney notified Hamilton Township police, who were able to secure the alligator without harming it. It was later turned over to state wildlife officials, and further details on its status were not disclosed.

It's not clear how the alligator ended up in the preserve. But officials say it appeared to be in good health.
