Rutgers-Camden closer to getting more housing

Southern New Jersey officials plan to gather in Camden on Monday to celebrate new housing being built there for graduate students at Rutgers University.

The university will hold a topping-off ceremony for a 12-story building designed to house 350 graduate students. It's expected to cost $55 million and should open for students in August 2012.

It's the first new housing being built on the Camden campus since 1989.

The campus is largely a commuter school. But Chancellor Wendell Pritchett has made it a goal to have more students living on or near the campus.

Currently, there's room for about 520 students on campus.
