Cellphone use ruled out in CO crash that killed 6
KIT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - October 15, 2011
Patrol Technician Tim Ortiz says troopers found no evidence that
57-year-old Howard Mitchell was using a cellphone when his van
carrying 12 children crashed into a cattle trailer Thursday south
of Kit Carson.
Ortiz says investigators believe speed will likely be a main
factor in the crash.
Mitchell, a Cheyenne County sheriff's deputy, was killed, as
were five children between 10 and 17. The State Patrol says none
were wearing seatbelts.
