Delaware councilman injured in Va. plane crash
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - October 31, 2011
Media outlets report that 49-year-old Vance Phillips of Laurel,
Del., broke his back and is in serious condition at the University
of Virginia Medical Center after a hard landing on Sunday. Vance is
a Sussex County councilman and former Delaware Republican Party
vice chairman.
Police say Phillips' three-wheeled North Wing "trike," which
is similar to a hang glider, landed too fast and at a steep angle.
Last week Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher accused
Phillips of throwing a notebook at his head and kneeing him in the
groin during a heated argument at the county's GOP headquarters.
The Delaware Attorney General's Office is considering whether to
charge Phillips with a crime.
