Police: Stolen car crashes into Camden house, driver charged

CAMDEN, N.J. - November 17, 2011

The driver, 35-year-old Lashawn Boykins, suffered serious injuries. He is in stable condition at Cooper Medical Center.

Boykins has been charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Eluding, Reckless Driving and other offenses.

The owners of the car flagged down police after they spotted their stolen vehicle in the Centerville section of the city.

When a police officer approached the vehicle on foot, Boykins put the car into gear and fled at a high rate of speed.

At around 2:45 a.m., Boykins lost control and crashed into the residence at the intersection of 8th Street and Central Avenue.

Officers arrested Boykins at the scene.

The family inside the home was evacuated unharmed, but they have not yet been permitted to return. They are being assisted by Red Cross.
