Ashley Pompei of the Montgomery Mall explains, "Shopkick is a mobile app that you can install on your iPhone or your Android phone for free and it allows you to collect points for shopping. It's this new technolgoy where you get rewarded for doing some of your favorite things."
Once you collect enough points (or "Kicks" as they're called), you can redeem them for gift cards for stores like Best Buy, Target, American Eagle and more.
Pompei adds, "And in the spirit of the holidays, you can actually donate some of those points back to your favorite charities if you want."
Pompei and I hit the Montgomery Mall to see how it works.
I downloaded the app onto my iPhone. It uses the phone's GPS to figure out where you are. And as soon as it located me in the mall, I got my first 25 kicks.
You don't need to buy anything to get kicks, though you get more of them if you do make purchases or scan certain products. At Best Buy Mobile, we each received 30 kicks as soon as we stepped inside.
At Macy's, we received a 25% off coupon, along with deals on individual items.
Other ShopKick deals included 50 points for walking into Old Navy, and $10 off a $100 purchase at Toys R Us. In all some 250,000 stores nationwide have ShopKick offers available.
