2 pedestrians struck in Delaware collision

NEWARK, Del. - December 8, 2011

The incident happened at approximately 11:00 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Cleveland Avenue and Papermill Road.

According to police a 2001 Honda Prelude operated by a 24-year-old Wilmington man was travelling westbound on East Cleveland Avenue. The Honda passed through a green light at the intersection of Papermill Road when three pedestrians darted into the roadway, attempting to run southbound across East Cleveland Avenue.

Two of the pedestrians, both University of Delaware Students, were struck by the vehicle.

Both injured pedestrians were transported to Christiana Hospital. One of the victims, a 24-year-old male from Newark, is listed in critical condition with internal injuries. The second victim, a 21-year-old female from Washington, DC, is listed in stable condition with several broken bones.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
