When Debbie Stevens offered to donate a kidney to her ailing boss, Jackie Brucia, she says it was a gift. Although not a match, herself, Stevens' donation meant Brucia's wait for a kidney was shortened.
A year and a half later, Stevens was fired from the auto dealership where they both worked. "You would think that when someone is given the gift of life they're filled with gratitude," said Stevens.
Stevens said she had complications from the kidney surgery and called in sick a few times. When she did make it to work, the situation had grown hostile -- she was scolded and belittled.
Steven has now hired a lawyer and is suing for an unspecified amount. Atlantic Auto Group, the company Stevens worked for, says she was treated fairly and issued a statement saying her claim is "groundless."
