Woman arrested in taped SEPTA bus attack

PHILADELPHIA - June 22, 2012

The woman arrested is identified as 49-year-old Cassie Darby of North Philadelphia.

She was arrested by SEPTA Transit police officers at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday in the 3100 block of Chestnut Street.

Video of the attack, which happened May 31st, was released earlier this week.

The video shows a woman, now identified as Darby, getting on the Route 23 bus in the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue.

The woman is seen sitting down for a moment. Then, for an unknown reason, she stands up, walks up to a man sitting on the bus and started slapping and punching him.

She then got off the bus at the Germantown and Chelten Avenue stop and fled on foot.

The victim suffered head injuries.

Darby is charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person.
