3 people shot at Delaware sports center

NEWARK, Del. - August 17, 2012

The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Police say three people were shot following an altercation between a group of 8 men between the ages of 18 and 22-years-old, and a couple in the parking lot of the sports center on Gender Road.

According to officials, a verbal confrontation turned physical before the man pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the group of men.

Three of them suffered gunshot wounds to the lower body. The men left the area before police arrived, but showed up at a local hospital for treatment.

The injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.

Police believe the shooter left the scene in a dark colored Dodge or Chrysler with Delaware tags. He is described as a black man, 6 feet to 6'3" tall, 240 to 280 pounds, between the ages of 25 to 35, wearing a gray tank top, dark shorts and a baseball cap, and is believed to be armed with a small caliber hand gun.

He was last seen with a white female between the ages of 25 to 35, wearing a pink tank top and dark shorts. She is described as 5'2" to 5'6" tall, weighing around 200 to 250 pounds.
