First case of hive-napping

HANOVER, Pa. (AP) - December 13, 2012

Police in Hanover, Pennsylvania, are looking two people who've swiped nearly a dozen beehives.

The hives were stolen from a man's back yard while the owner was away for the weekend.

Beekeeper Troy Shearer tells the York Dispatch he's owned the hives for about six years.

An active hive can be worth up to 500 bucks.

Hanover police Lieutenant Dwayne Smith says the hive-napping is a first in his 23 years on the force.
