No more flying lanterns

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - May 8, 2013

San Luis Obispo County officials are banning flying fire-lit lanterns starting this June.

Officials say the sky lanterns pose a significant fire hazard.

They work like tiny hot air balloons, often powered by a candle.

Some sky lanterns will be permitted for religious ceremonies, but they must be approved by fire officials.

The lanterns will also have to be monitored and won't be allowed to float free.
