Robert Gioia, of Babylon, was arraigned Friday in Central Islip on three counts of first-degree robbery. A judge set bail at $150,000 in cash.
Suffolk police say the 29-year-old took less than $1,000 in a trio of robberies at salons in Lindenhurst and West Babylon. No one was hurt.
Suffolk Police Sgt. John Kempf tells Newsday (http://bit.ly/11IRRmB) that police haven't figured out why the robber picked salons as his targets.
He speculated that he "thought they were easy targets."
Gioia was still in custody Saturday and was unavailable for an interview. No one answered the phone at the legal aid office handling his case.
