Two New York men have been arrested on charges of trying to smuggle tobacco through Delaware.

According to Delaware State Police, a trooper made a traffic stop Thursday in Georgetown and saw filled trash bags in the rear of the vehicle and loose cigarette cartons.

Officers searched the vehicle and found 205 cartons of cigarettes with Virginia tax stamps, along with more than $11,500 in cash. Agents from the Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement determined the cigarette cartons were obtained in Virginia.

Police say 63-year-old Konstantinos Tsolatis and 72-year-old Panagiotis Tzathas, both of Astoria, N.Y., were arrested and charged with possessing untaxed cigarettes and other offenses.

Investigators seized the cigarettes and cash found in the vehicle.
